The BDO Standard Mastercard: A Review

This is pretty much your just-a-credit-card but it comes with good strings attached

What is it?
The BDO Standard Mastercard is your basic, no frills card (as per the description of most comparative websites). Most though, do not mention how BDO, being the largest commercial bank in the country has much to offer if given patience.😐

What does it do?
This is your basic, for basic purchases credit card. Not much to say, but it does give you a BDO card which given time can be upgraded more and more. Per se, this card will give you access to BDO's standard credit card rewards. The ratio of PhP50 spent to 1 point can be used for the following:
-waive the annual fee of PhP1500 (3300 Points or PhP165000)
-claim 250 Cebu Pacific Get Go points (750 Points or PhP37500)
-claim 250 Asia Miles or Mabuhay Miles (1250 Points or PhP62500)
-claim shopping gift cards and dining vouchers😐

Although the rewards aren't amazing, one thing that sets BDO apart is how easy it is to convert large payments into installment payments. All you need to do is fill in and submit an online form. Only RCBC's Unli-convert system can surpass it.😊

How was the experience?
In all honesty, I did not expect much from this card. After all, as a BDO investor, I know that BDO mainly targets the lower middle class and lower classes of customers. However, I did not expect the quality of customer service I was given over the phone. To be frank, it's easier to go to the nearest branch and ask the manager to endorse your requests. Also, one thing that amends the quality of customer service is BDO's online portal. That almost removes any need to contact BDO using the phone. You will end up memorizing the commercials being played while you wait; "After all, we are BDO. We find ways" πŸ˜”

Still, I find reason to keep this card. First of all, a card with BDO can always be upgraded and even if BDO already offered to upgrade this to a Titanium Mastercard, I chose to keep this card as is to avoid the elite card's annual fee. That takes care of any need for perks. 😊

More importantly though, BDO continuously has promos which include buy now, pay later offers, discounts, and zero interest installment payments. BDO's wide network of partners is the strongest reason why I keep this card. These promos and offers helped me make my decision with several of my key purchases like a pair of shades from Dienastie which will be paid for three months after the purchase in six payments.😊😊😊

How do I get one?
You can apply either (1) an appointed credit card marketing agent for BDO (the kind that approach you in malls), (2) applying in an actual BDO branch, or (3) online through the many, many websites that compare (but not review) credit cards. They do work, and I can recommend:
https://www.moneymax.ph/
https://www.imoney.ph/
https://www.ecomparemo.com/
You will need:
-Annual income of at least PhP180000
-Proof of income (certificate of employment or payslip)
-Proof of identity (IDs and pictures)
-Proof of billing (past bills addressed to you)
