The RCBC Bankard Credit Card Rewards System: A Review

RCBC Bankard uses a unique, flexible system for rewarding points and redeeming rewards for credit card use. This allows the client to choose from several possible rewards including air miles, cash rebates, shopping vouchers, cash deposits, credits to the card account, manager's cheques, and donations.

I have already reviewed one of the RCBC Bankard cards, the Classic Visa here. I also mentioned several RCBC Bankard cards in my review of cashback credit cards here.

How does it work?
Depending what RCBC Bankard credit card you are using, all will be rewarded points which can be used according to this system. To redeem points, you must call the RCBC Bankard hotline at 1-800-10-888-1888.

-Air Miles
You can exchange your reward points at a ratio of 3 points to 1 air mile for the following:
-Cash Rebates
These are automatic for several cards, namely the cashback cards with specific partner merchants. For the more general cards, there is the option of using points to claim rebates during a specific credit cycle. What are most notable about this option are the following:
  • There is NO MAXIMUM LIMIT to how many cash rebates you can accumulate
  • There is NO MINIMUM amount of rebates needed before they get credited to your account
  • There is NO REQUIRED SPENDING in various categories to enjoy cash rebates
-Shopping Vouchers
Points can be used to redeem vouchers (most likely in PhP500 and PhP1000 denominations) which will reduce the amount to be paid at the following:
  • SM Department Store
  • Robinsons Department Store
  • Rustan’s Department Store
  • Rustan’s Supermarket, Rustan’s Fresh, and Rustan’sExpresslane (in denominations of Php500 and Php1,000 only)
  • Shopwise (in denominations of Php500 and Php1000 only)
  • The Landmark Department Store and Supermarket (please go to Foreign Exchange Counter at the Department Store)
  • Anson’s
  • Automatic Centre
  • Blims Fine Furniture
  • MC Home Depot
  • Store Specialists Inc.’s shops/boutiques:A/X Armani Exchange | Anne Klein | Bally | Beauty Bar | BottegaVeneta | Burberry | Coach | Colour | CK Jeans | Diesel | DKNY | DKNY Jeans | Episode | Fruits & Passion | G.H. Bass | Gucci | Jack Spade | Jessica | Kate Spade | Kenneth Cole | Lacoste | Lush | Make Room | Marks & Spencer | Marlboro Classics | Natori | Nine West | Philippe Charriol | Polo | Ralph Lauren | Prada | Salvatore Ferragamo | Springfield | Tod’s | TuttoModa | Yves Saint Laurent
  • Wilcon
  • MANGO, H.E. by Mango and Mango TOUCH

-Annual Fee Waiver
It is possible to waive your annual fee using your points but this varies between cards and it is important to note that for the more exclusive cards, this can be done automatically with a certain amount spent

-Cash Deposits
Your points can be used to redeem cash deposits to your RCBC savings account. This probably very variable according to card and seniority

-Credits to the Card Account
Like the previous, this option will credit your card balance. Also, the amounts vary between cards.

-Manager's Cheques
If cash is important to you, you have the option of redeeming your points as a manager's cheque. The amount will usually, like the previous mentioned options vary according to several factors.

-Donations
Like several other card issuing banks, RCBC Bankard gives you the option of using your points to donate to charitable organizations like the Philippine National Red Cross and the Alfonso Yuchengco Foundation.

Why use this?
I can say from my personal experience as a bank and credit client of RCBC, this is one of my favorite rewards systems. I am very pleased with the way I get to choose how to use my points. Compared to those of other banks, this is the most flexible rewards system. To be more specific, I like how I can use my points for air miles, credits to my account, and rebates. Although there are better rewards systems from other banks for each specific way to use your points, this program covers the most, making it a jack of all trades, master of none.

If you want these cards, you can apply at one of these websites. I did, and they all work!
